Context and Differentiation in Antidepressant Effects of Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents—Reply
//www.igerbera.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2804203
Mon, 24 Apr 2023 00:00:00 GMT
In Reply We thank Budde et al for expressing interest in the scope, design, and findings of our study and for proposing points for improvements regarding the design and generalizability of the results. We agree with the authors that different physical activity domains may have differential effects on mental health, as reported by White et al. However, the aim of our study was to explore the potential of physical activity interventions to reduce depressive symptoms of children and adolescents. We chose to focus on interventional studies because, in our view, physical activity–based interventions can be easily implemented in the lives of children and adolescents as part of a school curriculum or as an after-school sports or exercise program, and may therefore provide a feasible and safe approach to manage depressive symptoms in young cohorts.
